Stone Carving – 1st Place - March 27, 2017

Our Level 2 Stonemason entered into the annual stonemasonry skills competition at Bath College on the 20th March.

The candidates commenced the competition with sawn Portland stone, approximate size 500 x 300 x 200mm. The piece they had to hand carve was a cyma reversa moulding to include a right hand return to an ashlar stop with a radiused return to the left hand side.

The stonework was assessed by independent judges and we are very pleased that Joshua Underwood, an apprentice of Architectural Stones achieved 1st place. This now confirms Joshua’s place in the southern heat of the UK Skills Stonemasonry competition which will be held in London on the 18th May 2017.

This is not the first time he has excelled in his craft. As he competed in the southern heat of the UK Skills Stonemasonry competition in 2016, coming 3rd place. He then went onto compete in the Skills Show at the NEC in Birmingham.
